Scuba diving ("scuba" originally being an acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus, although now widely considered a word in its own right) is a form of underwater diving in which a diver uses a scuba set to breathe underwater for recreation, commercial or industrial reasons. Unlike early diving, which relied exclusively on air pumped from the surface, scuba divers carry their own source of breathing gas (usually compressed air), allowing them greater freedom than with an air line. Both surface supplied and scuba diving allow divers to stay underwater significantly longer than with breath-holding techniques as used in snorkelling and free-diving. According to the purpose of the dive, a diver usually moves underwater by swimfins attached to his feet, but external propulsion can come from an underwater vehicle, or a sled pulled from the surface. Every time I wear my scuba diving goggles, the pressure of the goggles against my skin causes an indentation to form accross the skin of my forehead. It goes away in a few hours, but will eventually lead to forehead wrinkles? Asked by internet1136@sbcglobal.net - Fri Jan 18 20:13:40 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Get a scuba pro to check out your mask...sounds like it is not fitting you correctly. Could be sizing, could be that the mask just does not work with you. This problem will definetly NOT cause wrinkles. Wrinkles on the forehead region are caused by a shrinking amount of collagen and gravity ( aging ). Q. We're planning on going scuba diving this summer under the supervision of a certified instructor as a cruise excursion. Unfortunately, my brother is worried he'll run out of air (we're only going about 15-20 feet deep, so on the off-chance that happens, it isn't too hard to swim to the surface (plus, there are a bunch of people who'll be there just in case; it's the clear waters of the caribbean, so they can see him). Anything I can say to reassure him that he isn't gonna drown? Asked by Sparky - Sun Apr 19 16:13:42 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. From what it sounds like, you do not fully understand the danger of SCUBA diving. Even at 15-20 feet, with the air that you will be breathing, coming up too fast could do some serious damage. Do not dismiss the dangers because you are "shallow." Even though running out of air is unlikely, worse things can happen. One of the most important things to having a safe dive is confidence. It is very easy to freak out down there and that is when bad things happen. If you brother does not feel up for diving, forcing him to do so is dangerous. There are considerable safety measures in place. Knowing the specifics might ease him. You are never alone. There is always someone there to help you. Every diver has a second re breather so if you run out… [cont.] Answered by greg - Thu Apr 23 13:03:23 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Scuba Diving"
